Come 2012 there will be a slew of sedan launches in India, especially in the entry level segment. So we at CarToq decided to make a comprehensive list of sedans set to hit the roads next year.
Honda City facelift: January 2012
Looks: The facelifted version of the Honda City is an evolutionary design with no dramatic changes. The front grille will be chrome plated while the side profile of the City will get chrome-coated door handles, door mirrors with integrated turn indicators and new alloy wheels. At the rear it will feature refurbished tail lamps which get two horizontal slats for the rear fog lamp and turn indicators.
Performance: Expect no change in the engine specifications. The City facelift will be powered by the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC motor that makes 117 bhp of maximum power and 146 Nm of torque. It will come with a 5-speed automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual transmission depending on the variant.
Mileage: The City facelift is expected to have a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.70 kmpl which is same as that of the present model.
Driving aids: The facelifted Honda City will carry a new feature called ‘Eco-meter’ that is already found in the recently launched Honda Brio. The Eco lamp will glow when the car is driven in optimal gears and the driver is gentle with the acceleration pedal.
Variants and price details: Earlier, CarToq spoke to dealers who expect a slight increase in the price for the City facelift version but it is not clear as to how much the hike will be. At present, the Honda City is offered at Rs. 7.49 lakh for the base variant (E MT), Rs. 8.19 lakh for the mid variant (S MT), Rs. 8.64 lakh for the top-end variant (V MT) and Rs. 9.37 lakh for the automatic variant.

Looks: The all new Sonata (known as i45 in other countries) boasts the brand’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design language evident from the smooth flowing lines. The rear-view mirrors also have LED turn-indicators. The rear of the Sonata has wide tail lamps and a sculpted boot lid. Clearly, the Sonata will be one of the best looking cars from Hyundai in its Indian product portfolio.
Performance: For the India-bound Sonata, Hyundai may use a 2.4 litre petrol engine that produces 198 bhp of power and 250 Nm of torque. The car will either sport a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai may consider launching the 2.2 litre diesel engine that produces 197 bhp of power and 420 Nm of torque.
Mileage: Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency figure of 12.6 kmpl (in international markets) for the petrol version while the diesel version can be expected to have a fuel efficiency of 16 kmpl.

It will even sport dual gauges and a fluorescent instrument console display along with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a multi-function trip meter.

Expect the Manza CS to be powered by a 1.2 litre Safire 65 petrol motor. Tata Motors may also mull over introducing the 71 bhp, 1.4 litre CR4 common rail diesel motor in the Manza CS which currently powers the Indigo CS.
Mileage: Expect the Manza CS to return a mileage of around 22 kmpl for the diesel variant and around 17 kmpl for the petrol variant.

While the 90 bhp petrol could be based on the Swift’s 1.2 K-series engine, the diesel motor (DDiS) could be sourced from Fiat. Fiat already has a 90 bhp Multijet diesel that powers the Punto. This engine may likely be used by Maruti Suzuki in the Dzire compact sedan.

The Dzire compact version (with less than 4 meters in length) is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5 – 7 lakh.

Looks: The new Civic has sharp lines, which are reminiscent of the older variants but not lacks the futuristic looks of the present model. Overall, the new Civic design is more elegant but slightly conservative.
