Tata is all set to launch the new Punch micro-SUV in the Indian market. The new micro-SUV has been spotted on Indian roads without camouflage quite a few times. Now, a walkaround video of the Punch has surfaced on the internet that shows the exterior as well as the interior. The video is uploaded on YouTube by CARKHANA.
In the video, the Punch is spotted in a unique brown paint scheme with black roof and wing mirrors. It looks like a mini Harrier with its split headlamp setup, rugged-looking bumper and a flat bonnet. The upper strip is the LED Daytime Running Lamp that also houses the turn indicator. The main headlamp unit has a projector setup. However, projectors would only be offered on the higher variants. Also, Punch uses a conventional halogen setup instead of LEDs.

At the sides, there is chunky plastic cladding and newly designed 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. There are non-functional roof rails and the ground clearance also looks quite high. So, Punch should be able to tackle our Indian roads quite easily.
The rear has small tail lamps with a large tri-arrow element in them. There is “Punch” spelt out in the centre of the boot. Just like the front, there is a black piece of the bumper that also has reflectors on it. Overall, the design of the Punch looks very attractive and modern.
Then we come to the interior of the Punch, where we can see that the cabin is finished in a dual-tone theme of black and white. There is a multi-function steering wheel with cruise control buttons on it. The instrument cluster is part digital so the speed is displayed by an analogue unit.
There is a floating touchscreen infotainment system that will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will be connected to speakers sourced from Harman which we know sound best in the segment. There are rectangular air conditioning vents with silver surrounds. On some variants, we have seen that the surrounds are finished in body colour. It also comes with automatic climate control, push-button to start/stop and much more. The host says that the boot space is decent and Punch comes with adjustable headrests.
The vehicle that we see in the video is equipped with a manual gearbox. It is a 5-speed unit. There will also be a 5-speed AMT on offer once the Punch launches. It is expected that Tata Motors would offer the Punch with only a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 86 PS of max power and 115 Nm of peak torque. We hope that Tata also offers the Punch with the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine because that would make it a fun little micro-SUV.
The Punch would compete against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100. It is expected to launch in the upcoming weeks. Some of the Tata dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings of the Punch.
