Toyota to launch Taisor compact crossover in India soon: What it may look like [Video]

The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, will soon launch its newest crossover, the Fronx, and reveal its price. Following in its footsteps, it has now been reported that the other Indo-Japanese carmaker in the country, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, which is a strategic partner of Maruti Suzuki, will soon be launching their iteration of the Fronx as well. According to reports, this new crossover from Toyota will be sold under the name of Taisor and could be launched in the middle of this year.

Preliminary reports have suggested that the new Taisor will borrow its underpinnings from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, just like other models such as the Urban Cruiser, Hyryder, and the Glanza. Although, just like both of the previously mentioned cars, the Taisor will also boast a different exterior design from its Maruti Suzuki counterpart, Fronx. However, the Toyota Taisor will get almost the same interior as the Fronx.

In terms of interior and features, the Toyota Taisor will most likely come equipped with a dual-tone interior theme. Meanwhile, we can expect to see the same 9.0-inch free-floating SmartPlay infotainment system that will also have connectivity options including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, it could also get faux leather and a wireless vehicle charger, head-up display, 360-degree rear-view camera, automatic air conditioner, reverse parking camera, and a ton of other creature comforts.

As for safety features, the Toyota Taisor, just like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, could get features like ISOFIX mounts for child seats, front, side, and curtain airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and pedestrian protection compliance. Additionally, it could also get premium safety features such as hill hold assistance and an electronic stability program. The Taisor might also come equipped with three-point ELR seat belts, auto-dimming interior and rearview mirrors.

As of yet, exact powertrain information has not been leaked, but just like other speculations, we believe it will come with the same powertrain options as the Fronx. This will mean that it could get the options of both the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine and the new, three-cylinder, 1.0-liter turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine, both equipped with mild-hybrid technology. The former could generate 100 horsepower and 147.6 Nm, but the latter could generate 90 horsepower and 113 Nm. While the NA petrol engine may come with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT transmission, the turbo-petrol engine could be offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Reportedly, the Toyota Taisor will be launched with a starting price tag of Rs 7.5 lakh and could go all the way up to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), although the precise estimates for the price could be guessed after Maruti Suzuki reveals the prices for its Fronx. Maruti Suzuki will most likely reveal the price of the Fronx next month. The Taisor, once launched, will become the brand’s second vehicle in the sub Rs 10 lakh category and will be used as a volume gainer for the brand.
