The Passat was offered with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine and a 1.8-litre TSI petrol engine. Both the engines transferred the power to only the front wheels. The petrol engine produced 160 bhp of max power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It was mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The diesel engine produced 168 bhp of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. It was mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The top speed of Passat was a claimed 233 kmph.
