Jeep brand was introduced into the Indian marke back in 2017 and Compass was their first product which made the brand popular among Indian buyers. It was a made in India SUV and quickly became popular among buyers as there was no other SUV like Compass available in the markat at that time. Jeep Compass became popular among buyers for its looks and features. The brand name Jeep also played a crucial role in its success. Compass became an aspirational vehicle for many SUV buyers after its launch in 2017.

Jeep introduced Compass SUV in Indian market with two engine options. There was a 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol version of the SUV generates 163 Ps and 250 Nm of torque. The diesel variant generates 170 Ps and 350 Nm of torque. This same diesel engine is also used in cars like MG Hector, Tata Harrier, Hector Plus and Tata Safari in the market. When Jeep launched the Compass in India, only the petrol version of the SUV was available with an automatic transmission option. It was a 7-speed DCT gearbox and 6-speed manual gearbox was standard in both the engine options.

Only at a later stage, Jeep offered diesel variant with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Jeep recently launched the updated or the facelift for Compass SUV in the market and it now looks a lot more premium than before. Jeep brand is often related to rugged looks, solid build quality and presence on the road. Jeep Compass checks all these boxes and that is one of the reason why it is still a popular choice among SUV buyers despite its shortcomings.

When compared to its rivals, Jeep service and dealer network is limited. It is also smaller in size when you compare it with cars like Hyundai Tucson, Tata Harrier in the segment. The smaller size means, there is less space for occupants sitting in the rear seat. The fuel efficiency is less and overall cost of maintenance on this is also high in comparison to other SUVs in the segment.
