Not your average Porsche! This gets no V6 or V8. This Porsche-look-alike runs on LPG! The interesting find has now surfaced for sale, on OLX, with an asking price of 4.5 lakh. The ad says it is located on Srisailam Highway, Hyderabad. The vehicle has reportedly had two previous owners, and has valid documents for the next five years.
So what is this car based on? A humble 2003 Hyundai Accent! Not sure if the attempt was to make a 911 look-alike or a Boxster replica, as the actual form stands somewhere in the middle. The bodywork looks neat, even a bit comical. I feel this to look like a Porsche from the Disney Cars movie. Look carefully at the proportions, the windshield rake angle and the rear surfacing and we might have shared thoughts!
The front gets a Porsche look-alike hood, curvy surfaces, round headlamps, clean fenders and bumpers. The ORVMs seem to be the stock units. On the side, the car gets a new set of wheels and has been converted into a 2-door. There is even a faux air intake near the rear wheels, mimicking the engine-breathing mechanism on Porsches.
The rear section has a design that would remind you of a Boxster or 911. It might not be the most convincing in terms of finish and aesthetics, but the effort is to be appreciated.
The car also has PORSCHE written on its front bumper, and racing stripes running along its length. It even has the number 14 written on it. Interestingly, the doors wear the number ’12’! It has a soft top.
The interior remains largely untouched. You can, however, see the new seat covers with sporty Red accents and a new sports steering wheel. Another thing hilarious about this ad is that it says the car to have front and rear power windows, whereas, in reality, it doesn’t even have a rear window glass! It is also said to have a central locking system and a music system with Bluetooth connectivity.
The advertisement even says that it has a sunroof when all it gets is a fabric roof that barely does its purpose. Probably the idea is to have a sun above the roof, rather than ‘having a sunroof.’ The advertisement also says that the tyres and battery are new, and the odometer reading is 74,000 kilometres.
Back in its day, the Accent had a wide range of powertrain choices, spread across petrol, diesel, CNG and LPG options. Yes, the sedan even had a 1.5L LPG engine! This wannabe Porsche is also powered by the same. It used to produce 93.7 bhp and 125 Nm. This powertrain was available only on the Executive variant. The donor car should thus be the same.
The asking price for this car might sound rather ambitious. Usually, 2003 Accent sells for around 1.5-1.9 lakh. 4.5 lakh is way above the industry standards. It could be because of the modifications done to it, that the owner is quoting such a high price in the ad. Plus, it also says that the price is slightly negotiable. In case if you are interested, don’t hesitate to contact the seller.
