5 used Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs for sale: Why the Prado makes a lot of sense

The Toyota LandCruiser Prado is essentially the ‘light duty’ version of the legendary LandCruiser line up of rugged and reliable flagship SUVs that Toyota has been building for decades. Toyota builds the LandCruiser range of SUVs with a 25-year life span in mind at the minimum. The LandCruiser Prado is designed to offer great reliability and comfort for decades while costing a lot lesser than a full blown LandCruiser. The LandCruiser Prado can seat seven adults, is offered with powerful petrol and diesel engine options, comes with a four wheel drive system and is highly regarded for its bomb-proof reliability and low maintenance needs. It’s a fuel guzzler though, thanks to its big, 4,000cc V6 petrol motor. If you want decent mileage, opt for the diesel version.

Essentially, the Prado is a luxurious, more powerful version of the Fortuner that gives you the LandCruiser badge and much of the latter’s capabilities minus the exorbitant costs associated with buying a LandCruiser LC200. Buying a 10-15 year-old used Prado over a used German luxury SUV makes a lot of sense given the higher reliability and much cheaper maintenance costs.  The Prado has been on sale in India for a decade now and even before that, a lot of examples came into the country through the direct import route (bought mainly by expatriates and rich Indians). 90,000 Kms is nothing for a Toyota car, and just about 20 % of its overall life for a Land Cruiser Prado. This example is from 2009 and is a petrol powered model. It’s currently with its second owner, and the engine in question is a 4,000cc naturally aspirated V6 petrol, with a healthy 235 Bhp peak power output and an ample torque output of 362 Nm. This example has the same mechanical specifications as the one above but looks in much better shape cosmetically. It’s significantly pricier too, with an asking price of Rs. 14.99 lakh. This SUV is situated in Hyderabad, and this explains the higher asking price as SUVs down south sell at a premium to those from Northern India. 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Diesel with 126,000 Kms on the odometer

The Prado Diesel is for those who drive a lot and want the higher mileage of a diesel engine. This Land Cruiser Prado is of 2008 vintage and is currently with its second owner in Kerala, a state that simply loves its Toyotas. This SUV is powered by the 3.0 liter D4D turbocharged diesel engine that’s also on offer in the Fortuner. On the Prado, this diesel motor makes 171 Bhp-400 Nm.
