Fiat India has released the third teaser (Teaser 1 and Teaser 2) of the upcoming Avventura crossover styled hatchback, which is due for a launch here after the Punto EVO’s August 5th launch. The latest teaser video shows the Avventura performing the duties of a crossover, on city streets and on the open highway.
The Avventura is expected to make its debut a month after the Punto EVO’s launch, and will be followed by the Fiat Abarth 500 high performance hatchback, which is slated to arrive by the end of this year. 2o14 is proving to be a big year for Fiat with as many as four new launches and a mega dealership expansion program.
The Avventura shares its underpinnings with the Fiat Punto EVO and the major changes on the former include the addition of a body kit to endow it with the looks of an urban crossover. All variants of the Avventura will ride on taller wheels and will get a spare wheel mounted on the hatch lid to make for a butch appearance.
Ample ground clearance of over 200 mm will give the Avventura the ability to negotiate bad roads and speed breakers with poise. Since the crossover styled hatchback uses the Punto EVO platform that includes suspension components, the Avventura could be the answer to the Renault Duster’s carpet-like ride quality.
In terms of engines and gearboxes, the more powerful of the Punto EVO’s engines are expected to make their way into the Avventura’s engine bay. In other words, expect the 1.4 liter naturally aspirated petrol (89 Bhp-115 Nm) and the 1.3 liter VGT diesel (91 Bhp-209 Nm) engines, and 5 speed manual transmissions to be offered on the Avventura.
Fiat is likely to position the Avventura as a lower priced Ford EcoSport rival in India. Expect pricing of the Avventura to be in the league of the Volkswagen Polo Cross and the Toyota Etios Cross. The car is also likely to be exported to other emerging markets as India will be the first country to get the Avventura.
