Japanese automaker Honda has released the second TVC of its upcoming product, the Mobilio MPV. Like the first TVC, the second ad of the Mobilio has Comedy Nights’ Kapil Sharma in action, but with a politician involved instead of a pretty, young woman. The Mobilio will be launched in India on the 23rd of July 2014, and will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova MPVs.
Honda has also revealed that a top-end RS version of the Mobilio will follow the regular variants. The Mobilio RS variant will not have higher performance engines but new cosmetic bits on the outside and additional features on the inside. The Mobilio will be offered with two, 1.5 liter engine options, an i-VTEC petrol motor making 117 Bhp and 145 Nm, and an i-DTEC diesel motor that is good for 98.6 Bhp and 200 Nm. A five speed manual gearbox will be standard on both engines.
Even as you’re reading this, media drives of the Honda Mobilio are happening at India’s wine capital of Nashik, and the review of the MPV will be up here shortly. The MPV is a seven seater and is the first people mover from Honda for the Indian car market. Based on the Brio platform, the Mobilio will roll out from Honda’s Greater Noida factory. Serial production has already begun with dealer dispatches to begin shortly.
Honda estimates to sell about 45,000 Mobilios in India during the first year of production, an estimated number that is lower than the average sales of the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova. With the Mobilio, Honda plans to make further inroads into the Tier II and Tier III cities of India, where people movers are preferred to hatchbacks and sedans, due to the greater utility that the former category of cars bring to the table.
