At CarToq, we often get queries about components of cars that have failed or even complaints about shoddy repair jobs that were carried out in cars. The spurious spare parts business is huge and has eaten into almost all car brands. Hence at Auto Expo 2014, SIAM got as many industry leaders it could together to collectively try and spread awareness about the use of genuine parts in vehicles.
Industry leaders and leading carmakers had sound advice to offer. SIAM itself tried to make the 5 lakh plus strong crowd that thronged the Auto Expo 2014 more aware about the use of genuine parts through dance performances and skits in an outdoor arena, as well as, strategically placed booths in the venue to educate people about the menace of spurious spares.
We caught up with a few industry leaders to get their opinion on the menace. Here are some key takeaways from RS Kalsi, Executive Director, Spare Parts Business, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Co-chair, SIAM Anti-Counterfeiting Group, Takashi Kikuchi, MD, Isuzu India, Ravi Pisharody, Executive Director Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, and Rajesh Bagga, Senior VP, HR and Legal, Tata Motors and Co-Chairman, SIAM ACG.
