Mahindra will launch a new monocoque MPV this year. The company has been testing this vehicle extensively for the last 2 years on Indian roads. Code-named the U321, the new MPV is expected to be positioned in between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta in terms of pricing. A spy video now reveals the interiors of this MPV.
As seen in the video, the MPV will have a dual tone interior. It looks quite premium and we can make out features like the chrome trimming for AC vents, AC controls and gear shifter. The central console features a touchscreen infotainment system which is also expected to have Smartphone connectivity options such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other premium features include chromed door handles, a central armrest and automatic climate control. Leather seating is expected on the top-end models. The MPV is expected to be sold in 7 seat and 8 seat versions. The U321 MPV will be a global product and has been developed with inputs from Mahindra’s North American Technical Center. It will be front wheel driven and will have 2 engine options.
The diesel engine will be a newly developed, turbocharged 1.6 liter unit with about 125 Bhp and 305 Nm. The petrol engine will also be a turbocharged unit but the displacement remains unknown for now. 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes are expected on the new Mahindra MPV. It is expected to be priced between Rs. 9-12 lakhs.
The U321 is expected to be showcased at the Mahindra pavilion during the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The market launch is expected to happen later this year. This vehicle is not expected to replace the Xylo, but will be sold as a premium people mover that has high levels of comfort, refinement and performance. The styling of the MPV will also be classy, targeting both family and cab buyers.
