Volkswagen India launched their all-new compact SUV Taigun in the market last year. Taigun competes with cars like Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos in the segment. Volkswagen has now added two new features to the Taigun SUV. The SUV now comes with Idle Start/Stop system and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) as standard feature across the range. With the addition of new features, the price of Taigun has slightly increased as well. Taigun is an important model for Volkswagen as it is their first product under the India 2.0 strategy. It is based on MQB A0 IN platform which is also used in cars like Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia and upcoming Volkswagen Virtus.
The hiked price of the Volkswagen Taigun is applicable from 2 May, 2022. After the inclusion of new features like the Idle Start/Stop system, the fuel economy of the 1.0 litre TSI manual version of the car has increased and it now return 19.20 kmpl while the automatic transmission has a claimed economy of 17.23 kmpl. Talking at the event, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “At Volkswagen, our priority is to offer our customers a comprehensive and value for money proposition. With these product enhancements on the Volkswagen Taigun, it will offer our customers added comfort, improved fuel efficiency and a heightened drive experience.”

The price of the Volkswagen Taigun has been increased by four percent. Depending up on the variant, Volkswagen has increased the price by up to Rs 45,700. Volkswagen Taigun was first showcased to public at the Auto Expo in 2020. It was a concept which was very close to the production version. The Taigun has a design which is similar to other cars in the family. There are lot of straight lines that gives it bold, boxy design and premium look. The car gets signature Volkswagen grille at the front that extend to meet the headlamp that act as a part of the front grille. There are LED headlamps available in the top-end version. Decent amount of chrome can be seen on the grille and on the bumper. The Volkswagen Taigun comes with a muscular yet premium looking bumper with integrated fog lamps in it.
At the side profile, Taigun gets dual tone alloy wheels and a thick black cladding is seen all around the car’s lower portion. The main attraction of Taigun’s design however is the rear. It gets a unique looking rear design. It is futuristic and a muscular to look at. There are split LED tail lamps. Connecting these LED tail lamps is a reflector LED bar that runs across the tail gate. There is Taigun branding on the tail gate and Volkswagen logo is also seen here. A chrome garnish can be seen on the rear bumper as well.
Volkswagen Taigun comes with features like fully digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, electric sunroof, wireless phone charger, touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless. Automatic climate control, cruise control, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats and many more. Taigun is offered with petrol engines only. There is a 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine. The 1.0 litre engine comes with manual and automatic transmission option whereas the 1.5 litre version gets manual and a DSG transmission.
