Volkswagen India has just introduced a GT Line on the Ameo compact sedan. The sporty top-end trim is available with the 1.5 liter diesel engine. Prices of the Volkswagen Ameo GT Line start from Rs. 9.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The key changes on the Ameo GT Line include tweaks to styling on the outside while the interiors have been left untouched. As for changes, the Ameo GT Line gets decals on the doors, chromed door handles, a blacked-out contrast roof wrap, GT Line badge on the front fenders and blacked out wing mirrors. The car is available in five colours: New Sunset Red, Lapiz Blue, Reflex Silver, Candy White and Carbon Steel. The Ameo GT Line does not get a manual gearbox and buyers will have to make do with the 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox, which is known for its sporty performance.
The 1.5 liter TDI turbocharged diesel engine that powers the Ameo makes 105 Bhp-250 Nm. This engine is known to be rev happy and is well matched with the twin clutch automatic gearbox. Buyers of the Ameo GT Line have to be wary of ill designed speed breakers, parking ramps and potholes as the car’s weakest link is the DSG module that sits low. Damaging the DSG module will set you back by about Rs. 1.5 lakh. So, be very careful while driving the Ameo on bad roads. Also, do consider getting a protective bash plate installed under the engine and the DSG module to ensure that there’s no damage even if the car is accidentally scraped. One more alternative is to get a comprehensive, bumper to bumper zero depreciation insurance package that warrants you against damage of key DSG components.
The GT Line trim of the Volkswagen Ameo is based on the Highline Plus trim, which means that it’s feature rich. Twin airbags, ABS, center arm rest, flat bottomed steering wheel, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors and camera, anti-pinch power windows, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP), hill-hold and traction control are the various features on offer. The car is among the most fun to drive diesel compact sedans in India along with the Ford Aspire 1.5 Diesel, which is available only with a manual gearbox. Volkswagen also offers the GT Line on the Polo hatchback, which gets a diesel-manual and a turbo petrol-automatic option. The turbo petrol automatic option is also offered with the Volkswagen Vento, which is a lot pricier than the Polo, and also offers more space and features.
