Volkswagen, one of the biggest car makers in the world is currently following the India 2.0 strategy. Under the new plan, the German automobile giant plans to launch a slew of all-new cars in the Indian market. Before the official launch, Volkswagen has released a teaser of what they will bring to the 2020 Auto Expo in India. The Expo will happen from 5th February and the auto-giant plans to showcase four new vehicles among the other products. Here are all the details.
The Volkswagen T-Cross will be launched later in 2020 and it will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which has been developed specifically for the Indian market. The cost-effective platform will also underpin a slew of cars from the Volkswagen Group in the future. The India-spec T-Cross will be longer in length than the international versions and will take on the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Captur in the Indian market. Even this SUV will get powered by the similar 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will produce around 130 Bhp. A lower-powered 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine is also expected that will generate around 115 Bhp of maximum power.
The Volkswagen T-Roc will launch in the Indian market next year. The manufacturer has already started testing it on the Indian roads. It will be the first vehicle from the brand that will be launched in the Indian market in 2020. The T-Roc will be positioned directly against the likes of Jeep Compass, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500. The T-Roc will follow a premium price tag for the Indian market and will be priced at around Rs 18-20 lakhs. The vehicle will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Volkswagen will not launch any diesel engine option with the T-Roc.
Volkswagen I.D. Crozz EV
With the manufacturers starting to launch their Electric Vehicles in the Indian market, Volkswagen will showcase the I.D. Crozz EV concept as a halo product. The vehicle will not be launched in the production version for at least a couple of years to come but it shows the manufacturer’s intent to launch such a product in the market. The concept vehicle can do 500 km on a single charge. It stores the power in 83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that turns a 102 PS-140 Nm electric motor that powers the front wheels of the car. A second motor that powers the rear axle generates a maximum of 204 PS and 310 Nm. Combined, the vehicle gets a maximum of 306 PS and a peak of 450 Nm. It can do a tops-speed of 180 km/h.
Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace
Volkswagen Tiguan is currently the most expensive and only SUV from the brand in the Indian market. The brand will launch the bigger version of the car at the Auto Expo and it will be known as the Tiguan AllSpace. The AllSpace version is about 215 longer in length and gets a 110mm longer wheelbase when compared to the regular version. It gets a third row seating option that can be folded down to add 115 litres of more space.
