Set to rival the recently launched Fiat Abarth Punto, the Volkswagen Polo GTI is likely to make an appearance at the 2016 Auto Expo in February ’16, mentions a report by Autocar India. The car will be joined by the recently announced Polo-based compact saloon, which could be called VW Bora.
Talking of the Polo GTI, the hot hatchback is powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine that makes 189 hp, is expected to be launched with a 7-Speed DSG automatic gearbox (ditching the standard manual gearbox that’s offered in other markets), and will be pricier in comparison to the Fiat Abarth Punto.

The Polo-based compact saloon has attracted an investment of Rs 720 crore. The report mentions about the revival of the ‘Bora’ name, and keeping the 4-metre rule in mind, the car will get 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines that are currently available on the Polo hatchback and Vento saloon. The former could be the turbocharged TSI engine as well, alongside the boggo 1.2-litre MPI, and there could also be an optional DSG transmission. Final specs are likely to be announced at the unveiling.
Both vehicles are expected to go on sale in mid-2016.
