Volkswagen has launched a Turbo edition of the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan in the Indian market. The Turbo edition is based on the Comfortline variants that are currently available with both the cars. The Volkswagen Polo Turbo edition is priced at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) whereas Volkswagen Vento Turbo edition is available for Rs 8.69 lakh (ex-showroom). For Polo, the changes are cosmetic as well as mechanical whereas for the Vento the changes are only limited to cosmetic upgrades. The new variant is introduced to make the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine more accessible to the enthusiasts. Due to which both the cars are now available with a TSI engine at a lower price.
The 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 110 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 175 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox for the Turbo variants. However, you can get a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox on the higher variants. The Polo is also offered with a 1.0-litre MPI engine for the lower variants. The engine produces 75 PS of max power and 95 Nm of peak torque. It is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox and with Trendline and Comfortline Plus variants.
Other changes to the vehicles are cosmetic only which are done to make the car look a bit more sporty. The Polo Turbo and Vento Turbo comes with gloss black spoiler, Turbo badge on the front fender and blacked-out outside rearview mirrors. For the interior, both the cars come with sporty seat covers. Other highlights include a flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, height adjustment for the driver seat, rear parking sensors and new 15-inch Razor alloy wheels. Whereas the Vento Turbo gets a different Linas diamond-cut 15-inch alloy wheels and rear AC vents.

Earlier the TSI engine was available with the Polo in the Highline Plus variant which cost Rs. 8.34 lakhs ex-showroom. However, because of the new Turbo edition, the TSI engine is now more powerful as the new variant costs just Rs. 6.99 lakhs ex-showroom. A similar deal is with the Vento but the TSI engine is standard across all the variants. Where the entry-level Trendline variant costs Rs. 8.69 lakhs ex-showroom, now with the addition of Turbo edition the line-up of the Vento starts from Rs. 8.69 lakhs ex-showroom. The new variants have made the TSI petrol engine more affordable than ever and this should attract more enthusiastic buyers.
Volkswagen Polo starts from Rs. 6.01 lakhs ex-showroom and goes till Rs. 9.92 lakhs ex-showroom.The Polo competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Volkswagen Vento starts from Rs. 8.69 lakhs ex-showroom and goes till Rs. 13.68 lakhs ex-showroom. The Vento is competing against Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
