Volkswagen will be launching the Taigun compact SUV in the market today and here is all that you need to know about the Taigun. This is Volkswagen’s first product in the country under their new India 2.0 strategy. The production version of the Taigun is actually similar to the version that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. We have already driven the Taigun SUV in Udaipur and a detailed review article and video is also available on our website and YouTube channel.
Exterior Design
Volkswagen Taigun is based on MQB A0 IN platform. It is the same platform that was also used in Skoda Kushaq. This platform is specifically designed for Indian conditions. Taigun has a design which is unmistakably Volkswagen. It has a European car like design with Volkswagen’s signature SUV grille at the front. The headlamps are positioned in a way that it looks like an extension of the grille itself. LED DRLs are also integrated in it. The headlamps are available as all LED or halogen depending up on the variant.

The 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine generates 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission option.
The 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes with cylinder deactivation technology which shuts down two out of four cylinders in the engine when too much pressure is not put on the engine. This feature helps in improving the overall fuel economy. The same feature is also seen in Skoda Kushaq. The 1.5 TSI engine is offered with a 6-speed manual and a DSG gearbox option.
Price and Rivals
Volkswagen had already started accepting booking for the Taigun SUV. One can book the SUV at any Volkswagen dealership across the country by paying Rs 25,000 booking amount. Volkswagen is expected to price the Taigun quite competitively. It is likely to be priced between Rs 10 lakh to 17 lakh. We expect the pricing to be slightly cheaper than Skoda Kushaq. Vokswagen Taigun will compete with cars like Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the segment.
