December is here and so are very interesting discount offers on cars. Take the Volkswagen Taigun for instance. The compact SUV – Volkswagen’s first and most affordable one for the Indian market – is now available at a massive discount of Rs. 1 lakh. That’s not all. There’s a 4 year complimentary service package being thrown in to further sweeten the deal. This offer was advertised by EVM Volkswagen, a dealership based out of Kochi, Kerala. Other dealers across India have also been giving big discounts on the Taigun compact SUV. You’re advised to contact your nearest Volkswagen dealership for specific discount details. As it’s the year-end, dealers have pressure to clear stock as 2022 models will sell at significantly lower prices in 2023. We recommend that you negotiate hard to land yourself the best deal.
Coming back to the Taigun itself, the Volkswagen compact SUV is based on the MQB A0 platform, which has been put together by Skoda for emerging markets such as India and Brazil. The Taigun compact SUV and the Virtus C-Segment sedan are two Volkswagen cars that use this platform in India. In the future, many more affordable Volkswagen cars are likely to be underpinned by the MQB A0 platform. On-road Delhi prices for the Volkswagen Taigun start from Rs. 11.56 lakh for the base Comfortline 1.0 trim, and go all the way up to Rs. 18.71 lakh, for the top-of-the-line Highline 1.5 DSG trim. Volkswagen, like many other car makers in India, is set to hike prices across its car range early next year.
The Volkswagen Taigun is available with two engine options – a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol engine with 110 PS-170 Nm, and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo petrol engine with 150 PS-250 Nm. Both engines get 6 speed manual gearboxes as standard. While the 1 liter TSI motor gets a 6 speed torque converter automatic option, the 1.5 TSI motor gets a 7 speed twin clutch DSG automatic gearbox as an option. A segment-leading feature of the 1.5 TSI motor is its active cylinder deactivation (ACT) technology where two cylinders are shut off at steady cruising speeds to maximize fuel efficiency and minimize tail pipe emissions. While Volkswagen does not offer a diesel engine in the Taigun line-up, a CNG-Petrol dual fuel model will soon be launched as an cost effective diesel alternate.

The Taigun is one of the safest cars in the affordable segments of the Indian market. The car – along with its badge-engineered sibling – the Skoda Kushaq, scored a full five star rating in the updated Global NCAP crash test. The Taigun and Kushaq each scored 29.64/34 points in adult protection, and 42/49 points in the child protection safety tests. These scores make them the safest SUVs in the sub-Rs. 30 lakh segments.

Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Global NCAP said,
We welcome and congratulate Skoda and Volkswagen’s initiative to meet Global NCAP’s new five star requirements for the Kushaq and Taigun through voluntary testing. We urge all car makers to aspire to and achieve this level of crash test performance going forward, maintaining the momentum of safety improvements we have seen steadily develop through our programme since we began our Indian testing in 2014
