Volkswagen recently launched their all-new compact SUV Taigun in the Indian market. It is the most affordable SUV from Volkswagen in India. Taigun is an important product for Indian market as it is the first product to roll out under the brand’s India 2.0 Strategy. Volkswagen Taigun competes with cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and Skoda Kushaq in the segment. Prices for Volkswagen Taigun start from Rs 10.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Volkswagen has now released a new video for the all-new Taigun SUV.
The video has been shared by Volkswagen India on their YouTube channel. The Taigun was first showcased to us at the Auto Expo last year. The production version of Taigun is almost the same as the one shown at the Expo. It is based on MQB A0-IN platform. The SUV gets signature Volkswagen SUV grille that extends to meet the headlamps. The top-end version gets all LED headlamps and LED DRL. Coming down, the bumper gets a muscular design with a chrome strip running from one end to the other.
Coming to the side profile, the SUV gets dual tone alloy wheels with black cladding around the wheel arches. The Taigun gets sharp character lines that start from the front fender and meet with the tail lamp at the rear. The SUV also gets functional roof rails, shark fin antenna and a roof mounted spoiler. At the rear, the main highlight are the tail lamps. The SUV gets an LED tail lamps setup with a reflector LED lamp running between the lights. The rear bumper gets a chrome garnish on the lower part just like at the front.
On the inside, the top end GT Plus Line version gets carbon fiber finished inserts on the dashbaord, fully digital instrument cluster, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, touchscreen infotainment screen, wireless phone charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, ventilated front seats and so on. Some of the elements in the Taigun will remind you of Skoda Kushaq.
Taigun is offered in two groups. One is Dynamic and the other is performance. Dynamic version gets variants – Comfortline, Highline and Topline. The Performance Line has GT and GT Plus trims. Taigun is powered by two engine options. The variants under Dynamic trim are powered by 10 litre, three cylinder turbocharged petrol engine while the Performance version gets a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The 1.0 litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum of 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0 litre engine is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5 litre engine comes with a 6-speed manual and a DSG gearbox option. Base Comfortline is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh, Highline at Rs 12.80 lakh (manual) and Rs 14.10 lakh (AT), Topline at Rs 14.57 lakh (MT) and Rs 15.91 lakh (AT), GT at Rs 15 lakh and GT Plus at Rs 17.50 lakh. All the prices mentioned here are ex-showroom. Volkswagen has also started the delivery of the Taigun to customers.
