Volkswagen has launched its new flagship SUV for the Indian market, Tiguan. The SUV was earlier discontinued after the BS6 emission norms kicked in. However, now the Tiguan is back and it now starts at Rs. 31.99 lakhs ex-showroom. The SUV is being locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Aurangabad plant in India. Tiguan will compete against Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass, Citroen C5 AirCross and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
Volkswagen is also offering a 4EVER care package that costs Rs. 63,558 and there is also an extended warranty for Rs. 31,499. The manufacturer is also offering rough road packages as standard in India. Tiguan is now offered in 7 different paint shades. There is Nightshade Blue, Pure White, Oryx White, Deep Black, Dolphin Grey, Reflex Silver and Kings Red.
The design of the Tiguan has been updated. It now looks sleeker and modern because of its new design language. The front has been redone with a new more aggressive bumper with chrome garnishes.

There are new headlamps that come with two projectors and a new grille. It also comes with LED Daytime Running Lamps. Moreover, Volkswagen now offers Matrix headlamps. It comes with 24 individual LEDs that can turn off or on independently of each other. So, the car can detect when there is oncoming traffic and can turn off individual LEDs so that the oncoming drivers are not dazzled.
Volkswagen has also added different light modes. There is Country light, Dynamic bending lights and Poor-weather lights. All the different light modes are specifically tuned for different situations. There are also cornering lamps and new LED tail lamps.
The design of the Tiguan is still typical of Volkswagen. It has strong shoulder lines with a simple and sleek design. It runs on 18-inch Frankfurt alloy wheels. The front and rear bumpers are new and look elegant. The plastic cladding on the sides adds to the SUV quotient.
Volkswagen is offering a lot of features with the Tiguan. It comes with a three-zone climate control system, flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, upto 6 airbags, Anti-lock braking system with EBD, electric adjustment for the driver seat, ambient lighting with 30 different shades, illuminated gear shifter and door sills, hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring system and much more. You also get a panoramic sunroof that lets in a lot of light to the cabin.
There is also a digital cockpit that measures 25.4 cm and comes with different configurable views. It is said to be one of the best in the business. There is also a 20.32 cm infotainment that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Volkswagen has also added their My Volkswagen Connect connected car technology.
Tiguan is now offered only with a petrol engine. It is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged TSI unit that produces 190 PS of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. There is a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system also on offer. The new engine is more powerful than the previous 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine.
