Volkswagen Tiguan to be launched in 2 variants

Volkswagen is readying to launch the much anticipated Tiguan in India. The all-new Tiguan will Volkswagen’s first launch of 2017 and the production of the vehicle has already started in VW’s Aurangabad plant that is also shared with Skoda and Audi.

The upcoming Tiguan will be launched only in two variants – Highline and Comfortline in India. There will be standard features like LED headlamps, infotainment system and safety net for both the variants. The Comfortline or the base variant will come with 17-inch wheels, while the top variant, Highline will feature 18-inch alloy wheels. The Highline will also get a panoramic sunroof, virtual release pedal and faux leather upholstery.

Indian market will get the 5-seat version of the vehicle with regular wheelbase. The car is built on the VW’s MQB platform that also underpins the Skoda Octavia. The Tiguan will come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces a maximum of 143 BHP. There will be a seven-speed DSG transmission and all-wheel drive will be optional. The Tiguan will also get off-road mode selector dial.

The Tiguan will second attempt by the Volkswagen in the SUV market after their first product – Toureg did not gain popularity in India. The second-generation Tiguan is also lighter by 50 kg making it agiler.

The Tiguan was first showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and it became one of the most anticipated cars in India. The Tiguan will compete against the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and upcoming Jeep Compass in India.
