Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 TSI takes on big brother Skoda Octavia: Drag race (Video)

Volkswagen Virtus which was launched in the market this year is currently one of the most powerful sedan in the segment. It competes with cars like Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Slavia and Honda City in the segment. The Volkswagen Virtus is a replacement to Vento and comes with a 1.0 litre TSI and a 1.5 litre TSI engine. There are several videos of Virtus GT or the 1.5 TSI version available online. Many of them are drag race videos where Virtus competes with cars and SUVs from different segment. Here we have one such video where the Virtus 1.5 TSI is competing with a Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by TORQUED on their YouTube channel. The video starts with vlogger talking about the technical specification of both the sedans. The Volkswagen Virtus is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The Skoda Octavia on the other hand gets a 1.8 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 177 Ps and 250 Nm peak torque. The Octavia looks more powerful on paper but, it is also the heavier vehicle here. When compared to Virtus, the Octavia is 125 kg heavier.

Vlogger takes the car to a closed road to do drag race. He is driving the Virtus while his friend is in the Octavia. for the first round, AC, traction is switched On on both the sedans. Before starting the race, vlogger decides to turn the AC off in Virtus to give the sedan advantage. The race starts and Virtus takes off slightly early than Octavia. Vlogger admits that in the video that the cars did not move off the line at the same time. They prepared for the first round once again and this time, both the cars moved off the start line at the same time.

Initially, Virtus was in the front but by the time the car touched 90 kmph, Skoda Octavia took the lead and the gap between both the sedans kept on building. Skoda Octavia won the first round without any issues. Moving to the next round, both the sedans lined up and the cars were being driven by the same drivers. This time, the AC in the Virtus was on. The race started and the Skoda Octavia took off from the start line almost immediately. The car was in the lead and maintained it throughout the round. The vlogger was expecting a similar result but, still he was surprised to see how fast Octavia actually was in this race.

For third round, the cars line up for the race and this time, vlogger turns the AC off in the Virtus again. the traction control is still on in both the sedans. Just like the first round, the Virtus gets a lead initially but, as the Octavia touches 90 kmph mark, it overtakes Virtus without any struggle. the gearbox is an issue in both the sedans. They are very slow to respond initially and starts showing its true colours after gaining speed.
