Volkswagen Virtus GT vs BMW 2-Series sedan: Who would win in a drag race? [Video]

This year, Volkswagen launched their all-new mid-size sedan Virtus in the market. It is actually a replacement for the Vento sedan which was offered earlier. Volkswagen Virtus is an important product from the manufacturer and is also the most powerful sedan in its segment. Volkswagen Virtus competes with cars like Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Maruti Ciaz in the segment. Ever since this car was launched in the market, we have seen several drag race videos of the Virtus online. Here we have one such drag race video, where a Volkswagen Virtus GT competes with a BMW 2-Series sedan.

The video has been uploade by  Pratham Shokeen on his YouTube channel. For this race, vlogger opted for a closed road and lined up both the vehicles on the start line. Vlogger who is also the owner of the Virtus talks briefly about the engine specificiation of the cars used in the race. The Virtus GT is powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. The BMW 2-Series sedan uses a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 190 Ps and 280 Nm of peak torque. The BMW gets a torque converter automatic transmission while the Virtus gets a DSG transmission.

The race was conducted in multiple rounds. For the first round, the vlogger asked BMW driver to only deactivate the traction control and keep the AC running. On paper BMW was more powerful but, it was also heavier than the Volkswagen. Vlogger also deactivates traction control in his sedan and they start racing. Both the drivers prepare for the race and as soon as the race starts, Volkswagen moves off the start line very aggressively. BMW 2-series was not very aggressive.

Vlogger was surprised to see how far his Virtus has come. Once BMW started picking up speed, things started changing. The distance between both the cars was decreasing and at around 130 kmph mark, BMW 2-Series overtook Virtus from the other lane. Once the BMW took the lead, it kept on accelerating and the gap increased once again. Vlogger was very happy with the way both vehicles performed.

For the second round, both of them lined the car up at the start line and it was then that the BMW driver realised that he had not turned off the traction control completely. The settings on both the vehicles remained the same and they started racing once again. The Volkswagen Virtus instantly took the lead and was in the lead for some distance. At around 148 kmph mark, BMW 2-Series sedan overtook the Virtus and won the second round.

For the last round, driver’s swapped the car. Vlogger was driving he 2-Series and the BMW owner was inside the Virtus. The race started and unlike the first and second round, 2-Series was in the lead from the very start. The car maintained the lead throughout the race and won it. The video mentions that owner of the BMW is not used to such races and that is why his inputs are a bit late. When vlogger was driving the 2-Series in third round, it easily touch 190 kmph mark.
