Volkswagen vs Mercedes-Benz A200: Who would win in a drag race (Video)

Volkswagen launched the Virtus sedan in the market this year. It replaced Vento in the market and competes with cars like Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Skoda Slavia. Volkswagen Virtus is one of the most powerful sedan in this segment especially the 1.5 litre TSI variant. There are several videos of Volkswagen Virtus available online. Many of these videos are of drag races where the Virtus is competing with cars from different segments. Here we have a video where a Volkswagen Virtus is competing with a Mercedes-Benz A200 luxury sedan in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by TORQUED on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger races his Volkswagen Virtus against a Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine. The Virtus seen here in the video is the GT version which uses a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a DSG transmission. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class on the other hand uses a 1.3 litre turbo petrol engine that generates 163 Ps and 250 Nm of torque. The engine paired with a DCT gearbox.

On paper it felt like the Mercedes-Benz will win the race without any issues. However, Mercedes-Benz is slightly more heavier than the Virtus which gives both the cars, equal chances to win the race. Both the cars had three passengers in it for the race including the driver. The vlogger was driving the Virtus while his friend was in the Mercedes-Benz. Traction Control and AC is switched off in both the sedans and the Virtus is in Comfort mode while the Mercedes in in Eco mode.

Both the cars are lined up for the race and both cars get an aggressive start. They both move off the start line almost at the same time. Initially, Volkswagen Virtus was in the lead but slowly, Mercedes-Benz started closing in. Both the sedans were running next to each other and there was a tight competition between both the cars till the end. Towards the end, it looks like Volkswagen Virtus was slightly ahead of the Mercedes.

For the second round both the cars were put in into sport mode and every other setting remained the same. The race started and the Mercedes-Benz got a very aggressive start. In sport mode, the engine and gearbox behaviour in A-Class changed. A-Class sedan was in the lead and maintained it throughout the race. For the the third round, vlogger managed to get a better launch for the Virtus but, after few seconds, The A-Class overtook the Virtus and won the round.

For the last round, both the cars decided to go for a rolling start. Both cars would start racing after maintaining a speed of 20 kmph. The race starts and the Mercedes-Benz is instantly in the lead. The A-Class keeps on maintaining the lead and won the round. In this video, although, Volkswagen was the lighter car, it was not light enough to win the race against Mercedes-Benz. However Virtus did give Mercedes-Benz a tight competition in the race.
