Volvo has launched its first-ever performance-oriented car in India. The S60 Polestar has been launched at Rs. 52.5 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The Polestar division is Volvo’s performance division, similar to BMW’s M division and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division. The Polestar model adds to the S60 standard sedan and S60 Cross Country in India.
The 2017 S60 Polestar is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder inline engine that develops a maximum of 362 BHP and maximum torque of 470 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission unit with paddle shifters. The car gets bigger air intakes, a larger turbo and electronically controlled air flaps that improve the downforce and hence, the performance of the vehicle.
The S60 Polestar can do 0-100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds while the top speed is limited at 250 km/h. The figures make the S60 Polestar fastest Volvo in India.
To improve the handling, the suspension of the Polestar model is 80% stiffer than the standard S60 There are pure carbon strut braces that the front suspensions and improved steering feel and controls. The front bumper has been designed in a way that it induces 31 kg downforce at 250 km/h and the rear spoiler puts 15 kg downforce further improving the grip and handling of the vehicle.
Volvo provides dual front airbags, passenger airbags and SIPS airbags with whiplash protection for the front seats. There is also ISOFIX mounts, Emergency Brake Assist, lane departure control, adaptive cruise control, park assist and more as standard features in the S60 Polestar. The car weighs only 1,756 kg, which is 20 kg lighter than its predecessor.
The car gets 20-inch aluminium rims. The design is very aggressive with R-Design treatment and signature blue paint scheme. The S60 also gets revised grille and gloss black treatment. On the inside, the 2016 S60 Polestar gets sports bucket seats in the front row, carbon-fibre inserts and sporty leather upholstery. The pedals are drilled metal. The central console gets carbon fibre treatment. The S60 Polestar competes against the Mercedes-AMG C43 in India.
