VW announces model line up for 2017The Passat moniker will make a come back in 2017, after being discontinued from the market back in 2013. While VW showcased the GTE plug-in hybrid version of the Passat at the Auto Expo, they will be bringing in the 2.0 liter TDi unit to the Indian market initially. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed DSG. Engine output is not known however globally, the 6-speed is offered with either the 150 PS trim or the 190 PS trim. We expect VW to bring in the higher 190 PS output to the Indian market.

The Passat will also be one of the first vehicles in the segment to be offered with 9 airbags for additional safety. As for the other details, the company will reveal the same at the launch which is expected to take place later in the year. The company could consider bringing in the GTE hybrid as well. When introduced, the Passat will take on the Superb, the Accord and the Camry.

The Tiguan is a compact SUV which will take on the CR-V and the Tucson when it is introduced in the Indian market. The launch is expected to take place as soon as April this year. The Tiguan will also be powered by a 2.0 liter TDi engine but this one will be mated to a 7-speed DSG as opposed to the 6-speed DSG on the Passat. Power outputs are not known for the Tiguan either, however we expect it to be either the 180 PS or the 190 PS state of tune which is on offer in the global market.

In addition to this, VW will also be updating the Vento and the Ameo with 16″ alloys sometime in the year. The Polo GT has already gotten the 16″ rims and we expect the same to follow suit on the other vehicles as well.
