Want great resale value? Buy one of these 20 cars & SUVs

There are some cars that are very desirable and retain their resale value even after a few years. Then there are a few that are not successful in doing. If you do care about resale value, these are the cars that you should be looking to buy. Carwale recently did a survey on this and here are the results. Some of them aren’t surprising while others will shock you.

Toyota Innova

90% value retention after 3 years

Toyota Innova Crysta 2

This must come as no surprise that the Innova holds its value really well. So well infact that after using an Innova for 3 years, you can get as much as 90% of the value of the ex-showroom price of the car. That is a massive amount of money. The main reason why the Innova is so popular is the fact that is extremely spacious, comfortable, reliable and practical. People who buy one tend to stick with the model due to its practicality and comfort.

Maruti Ertiga

88% value retention after 3 years

ertiga 3

This was surprising for us. The Ertiga is second vehicle in this list of 20. The Ertiga can fetch upto 88% of its value after 3 years. If you are looking for an affordable MPV, the Ertiga makes the most sense. It is cheap, decently equipped, adequately spacious and being a Maruti, is cheap to run and maintain.

Ford Ecosport

87% value retention after 3 years

Ford Ecosport Storm

Another shocker on the list. Unlike what most people think that Ford cars don’t hold their value well, the Ecosport can fetch you upto 87% of its value. The main thing going for the Ecosport is the compact size and the fact that the car is fun to drive. It is also the only one in the segment to come with a whole host of engine and transmission options appealing to all.

Maruti Swift

85% value retention after 3 years

The Swift has always been a much loved car. Due to this, demand in both the new and used car markets for one have been huge. That is the main reason behind it getting upto 85% of its value. The Swift has now begun to show its age though. Yes, it still maybe one of the best to drive in the segment, but it is still losing out to the competition interms of features and practicality.

Toyota Fortuner

85% value retention after 3 years

The mighty Fortuner raised the bar so high that it took almost 7 years for someone to beat it. Ever since the Fortuner was launched in India, there has been massive demand for the vehicle. The company had to close bookings several times since they were finding it tough to meet demands. People were even willing to pay a massive premium to get one.

With such demand, you can clearly see why the vehicle holds its value in the used car market as well. You can fetch upto 85% for your 3 year old Fortuner.

Hyundai Verna

80% value retention after 3 years

In what comes as another surprise, it is not the Honda City that retains the most resale value. The Verna manages to outshine in this respect offering 80% of its value. The main reason why the Verna is so popular is the Fluidic design theme, the high levels of equipment and a punchy diesel engine making it the most powerful diesel in the segment.

Maruti Eeco

80% value retention after 3 years

Maruti Eeco

The Eeco is a very practical vehicle. It has the option of 5 or 7 seats and also comes in both petrol and CNG forms. For those looking for a cheap people mover with good amount of luggage space or for those looking for a camera car, the Eeco makes for a perfect choice. It is also very common in the taxi market and hence retains its value

Maruti Swift Dzire

80% value retention after 3 years

2015 Maruti Suzuki Dzire

There is no surprise here that the Dzire happens to be the best compact sedan to retain its value. People who have the Dzire can get upto 80% of its value. The Dzire is a popular car because it is cheap to buy and run, has adequate space and is decently loaded.

Maruti Wagon R

78% value retention after 3 years

wagon e

The Wagon R is for those sort of people who want a no nonsense car that has a lot of space and drives well. The Wagon R is powered by the 1.0 liter K10 engine making 67 Bhp and 90 Nm. It can fetch upto 78% of its new value. The reason why it is so popular is the fact that it has a lot of space, up front, at the back and boot space. Thus it is an ideal family car.

Hyundai Elantra

78% value retention after 3 years

Another shocking entry on the list. The Elantra happens to beat the Corolla Altis on this list by being able to retain upto 78% value. The USP of the Elantra is the fact that it comes loaded with a lot of bells and whistles, things that even cars in the higher segments don’t offer. So if you are looking at a car for the rear seat in this segment, the Elantra is a really good option.
