Maruti Jimny's price details have been leaked online - remember that these might not be the final prices, as there is no confirmation from Maruti Suzuki yet. According to available information, the top end Mahindra Thar would be Rs 4 lakh costlier than the top-end Maruti Jimny.
According to the leaked information, the base variant of the Mahindra Thar 4X4 gets a price tag of Rs 13.87 lakh while the Jimny base variant gets a price tag of Rs 9.99 lakh. There is already a difference of about Rs 4.5 lakh in the ex-showroom price of both vehicles!
If the leaked information is correct, the top-end Mahindra Thar 4X4 LX hard-top diesel-automatic costs Rs 19.6 lakh with registration , insurance and road tax in Delhi NCR. The Maruti Jimny top-end variant should cost around Rs 15.5 lakh to Rs 16 lakh, on-road. Here, the difference is just about Rs 4 lakhs.
That is the million dollar question. The Jimny is less powerful and smaller than the Thar. It is definitely capable, for sure - international markets would vouch for the capabilities of the Jimny. And you get Maruti service and Suzuki reliability. On the other hand, the Thar has been around a while....
Customers already know the Thar, its pluses and minuses. While the Jimny is capable for sure, the Thar offers better street presence and power. It also has a high GlobalNCAP score in safety.. And let us not forget that a 5-door Mahindra Thar would be coming soon.
There is no correct answer. There are those who will prefer the image of the Jimny, Maruti's service and reliability and would would be taken in the by the 'cute' looks. And there would be those who prefer the more macho Thar, or its upcoming 5-door variant.
Excitement is bound to folow the actual price announcement of the Maruti Jimny. Let us hold our horses a little bit longer!
