Here's what we know so far about the Thar.e
Mahindra's got something cool up their sleeve - they're planning to show off a Thar EV concept on August 15, 2023. This concept is gonna give us a sneak peek into the future design of the Thar.
Mahindra released a short teaser video for the Thar EV. We can see some design elements in the video - such as the new shape of the rear headlights. The name of the electric Thar is also revealed here - it will be called the Thar.e - pronounced Thar Dot E.
The Thar.e reveal will take place at Cape Town, South Africa on 15th August 2023, India's Independence Day. In the teaser video, we can see Mahindra using the tagline RE.born ELECTRIC - saying this is the Thar reborn in EV avatar!
The concept is likely to keep the overall shape of the Thar intact. The Thar EV concept will most probably have a 4X4 setup. It might even get quad-motor configuration - one motor per wheel.
There's also some buzz about the concept having a crab steer capability. This means the SUV could move sideways into those tight parking spots - super handy! Here all 4 wheels turn at a near-45-degree angle. Then the Thar can move sideways, like a crab.
Mahindra is developing an all-new platform, so the Thar EV could be based on that. On the other hand, if built as a ladder-frame SUV, then we can guess its much closer to production!
Faster dvelopment time and proven capabilities are reasons to take this direction for Mahindra.
Give it a few years. Say post 2025. This is because there are other Mahindra electric SUVs in the pipeline - and think they will get priority over the Thar electric
