Weekly deal: Skoda offer on Laura and Superb

Skoda is offering a good deal to buyers looking for a Laura or the Superb this month. The company recently launched a lower variant of the Superb and is now trying to boost sales, while sales of the Laura have been slipping, having been overtaken by the Chevrolet Cruze and Toyota Altis.

The deal that has been detailed below is for old models of the 2011 models of Laura and Superb to clear stocks.

Deal details

  • Interest Free Loan up to 85% value for 36 months
  • Preventive Maintenance service for 3 years /45000 km
  • Skoda Shield :

2+2 years Extended Warranty *

Motor Insurance

24 x 7 On Road assistance

Is this a good deal?

The deal is not really that good even for those looking for short-term EMI payments and a good deal on an older car. The monthly outgo amount on a three year loan will be fairly large, if you take 85% finance. One will need to pay about Rs. 3 lakh as down payment on the Superb Ambition variant and then get a loan for the balance amount, which works out to about Rs. 51,500 per month at 12% interest rate for 36 months.

Skoda cars have a service interval of 15,000 km, which means one service per year on average. Each service costs about Rs. 7,500. Labor charges are free for these three services (which they anyway are).

The Skoda Shield warranty that is being offered is on part payment for the extended warranty. These services can be availed only on new Skoda cars and is not part of the deal for the older models. In effect, this deal that appeared in the papers was just to clear stocks, but not really great value.
