Continuing on the success of the Compass SUV, Jeep India is all set to launch its rugged, go-anywhere version, the Trailhawk. The model was recently showcased to select individuals during a dealer event in Goa last week and we can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this new model. As we all know, the Compass Trailhawk is sold internationally as well and this means numerous international automotive journalists have already driven it extensively. We ran through some videos and it seems most experts have been impressed by this new model. Here’s a quick look at excerpts from five such videos.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk seems impressive on paper, and in these video clips. A major change for the Indian spec model will be the diesel engine. The Trailhawk will continue to be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel as found in the current Compass. This engine belts out 173 bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Unlike the normal Compass, the Trailhawk will get a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard. ARAI (automotive research association of India) rated fuel economy should be approximately 16.3 kpl. 4×4 ofcourse will be standard as well.
The Trailhawk is already being made at FCA’s (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) Ranjangaon facility near Pune for exports to right hand markets like Japan and Australia. This new SUV, as the name suggests, is ready for weekend off-road adventurous and even light trail driving. Credit for this goes to driver aids like Jeep’s Active Drive Low-range 4WD and even ‘Rock mode’ for the Selec-Terrain system. The bumpers at both the ends are redesigned and this along with the higher ground clearance (up by 20mm) allow for much better approach and departure angles.
As per various online reports, bookings for the Trailhawk are open unofficially. We reckon the launch will take place in the month of May or June 2018. Given the extra features and the 9-speed automatic transmission, the Compass Trailhawk will be priced upwards of Rs 24 lakh, ex-showroom.
