Mahindra will likely launch the Xylo mini very soon. The Xylo mini is built on the same platform as the Xylo. In June, CarToq shared an exclusive first drive of the Xylo mini. And now, we have a comprehensive list of features expected in the Xylo mini.
The Xylo mini will have safety features such as dual airbags, ABS and central locking. We expect Mahindra’s upcoming mini Xylo to come with body colored bumpers and 15-inch alloy wheels in order to enhance its aesthetic appeal. It will have adequate seating for five, and can seat seven at a pinch, with two tiny jump seats in the boot.
On the inside, the Xylo mini’s front fascia will have an instrument cluster consisting of a tachometer, trip meter apart from the standard gauges like the speedometer and fuel and temperature gaugues. With regard to convenience features, the Xylo mini will come with power windows, foldable rear seats, driver seat adjust, remote fuel lid opener, rear AC vents and rear wiper.
Do the features justify price?
Mahindra could price the Xylo mini starting from about Rs. 4.5 lakh up to Rs. 6 lakh. If Mahindra also manages to load the vehicle with enough features across various trims, it will be quite popular, as it opens up a whole new segment of vehicles in the Indian market.
Being less than 4 metres in length, the Xylo mini qualifies for excise duty sops similar to small cars, allowing for very aggressive pricing, so it could very well justify its price.
Mini Xylo’s unique proposition
The Mahindra Xylo mini, will have no direct competition. In fact, it will be creating a segment of its own, of mini people-movers, where space is the USP. The only other vehicle that is in this space at the moment but sells in miniscule numbers is the Premier Rio. The Rio hasn’t been very popular and is priced in the range of Rs. 5.36 lakh to Rs. 6.08 lakh.
The Xylo mini will actually be seen as an alternative for people who would normally buy large hatchbacks for the space. In a sense, it could target Tata Indica and Vista buyers. It also offers a good upgrade for owners of Maruti’s Omni and Eeco, who want a spacious, yet inexpensive people-mover.
Yes, there is an untapped market waiting for vehicles like the mini Xylo.
