What the Tata Peregrin (X452) premium sedan could look like: Honda City/Maruti Ciaz rival

In recent years, Tata Motors has entered a few new segments in India. The brand now offers a long list of products that completes the line-up and lets the customers choose from a variety of products. Tata is yet to launch a premium sedan in the Indian market to take on the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. However, the brand is working to fill the void and will soon launch an all-new sedan in the segment. Based on the Tata Altroz’s platform, here is what we think the upcoming sedan will look like.

Tata is yet to start testing the upcoming sedan and there’s not even a single picture of the car even under a camouflage. This rendering image made by our in-house rendering artist Vipin Vithoopan is based on imagination. But we do believe that the upcoming sedan will look similar to this rendering image.

The upcoming Tata sedan, which is internally known as the Peregrin will be based on the same ALFA platform that underpins the Altroz and will also form the base of the upcoming HBX micro SUV. The production name of the sedan will be different. The car is internally codenamed as X452. For reference, the Altroz was codenamed as X451 during the development stage.

Talking about the design of the upcoming premium sedan from Tata, it will be designed as per the Tata’s 2.0 IMPACT design philosophy. The design will be heavily inspired by the Tata’s E-Vision concept electric sedan that was showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Even the rendering image made by our artist shows the upcoming sedan inspired by the E-Vision concept. However, the production version of the car may offer a notchback-inspired rear design as we get to see on the Tata Tigor. The notchback design will surely add a sportier look to the car.

The front-end of the upcoming Tata sedan will be very much similar to the Altroz. the car will have a sleek grille with sleek headlamps on either side. Even the front bumper will offer a sportier design compared to the Altroz.

Even feature-wise, Tata’s upcoming sedan will offer a decent list including features like LED headlamps, DRL integrated to the turn indicator, automatic headlamps, premium sound system, a host of safety features and more. Tata’s vehicles have gained good ratings on the G-NCAP test and the upcoming sedan is expected to continue to follow the suite. Since the Altroz and the upcoming sedan will be based on the same platform, we will get to see a lot of parts sharing to keep the cost of development low.

Tata may use the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with the lower variants of the sedan will the higher variants can get the more powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit that is available with the Nexon. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will also be available with the upcoming car.

It should be noted that earlier reports suggested that Tata has shelved the project to launch an all-new B-Segment SUV to take on the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. But the latest developments show that the Tata is actively working on the project. The car may get launched in the market by 2022 and before that, we may get to see a glimpse in 2021 at the Geneva Motor Show. Tata may also start testing the new product on the roads under a camouflage.
