Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) will launch the face lifted Fortuner, Innova and the next generation Camry at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The company may also showcase the latest generation Prius hybrid sedan at the expo.
During the launch of Etios and Liva diesel variants in mid-2011, TKM had mentioned that for the next two years the company’s focus will be on establishing the Etios brand. Hence, it is less likely for Toyota to introduce any new models at the upcoming Auto Expo. Let’s take a brief look at Toyota’s lineup for the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
Toyota Innova facelift
The upcoming Innova is an evolved version of the outgoing model. On the exterior, the front radiator grille has been redesigned and the Innova gets horizontal chrome slats. There are minimal changes on the headlamps while the taillights have been refurbished. The fog lamps of the new Innova get plastic surrounds while the door mirrors of the facelift version get integrated turn indicators.
On the interior, the face lifted Innova gets a refreshed central console and new faux wood inserts. The new Innova may not redefine things in terms of looks and comfort, but it may attract buyers who are looking for cosmetic changes in the new model.
The Innova facelift will continue to have same engines that the outgoing model had, the 2.5-litre, D4D diesel motor making 101 bhp of max power and 204 Nm of max torque and the 2-litre petrol motor making 130 bhp of max power and 181 Nm of max torque. Expect a slight price hike for the Innova facelift as the present model is priced in the range of Rs. 8.73 lakh – 12.76 lakh.
Toyota Fortuner facelift
Toyota launched the Fortuner facelift version in Thailand couple of months back. This version will be launched in India at the Auto Expo. When compared with the present Fortuner, the upcoming Fortuner will get an aggressive front nose and thick horizontal chrome slats on the grille. The bonnet gets a large air scoop at the centre.
The front bumper has also been revamped to give the SUIV a muscular look. At the rear, the tail lamp cluster gets clear lens treatment. Toyota may also improve the interiors of the upcoming Fortuner. The face-lifted Fortuner will retain its 3.0 litre diesel engine that makes 170 bhp of peak power and 343 Nm of peak torque. The SUV will be available as both manual transmission variant and automatic transmission variant too.
New Toyota Camry
The facelifted Toyota Camry borrows design cues from Toyota’s premium brand, Lexus. The front grille of the upcoming Camry has three well pronounced horizontal chrome slats that give the car an elegant stance. The sharp lines and sporty rear profile give the new Camry, a youthful appeal.
The new Camry is expected to be powered by a new 2.5-litre petrol which will replace the 2.4-litre petrol motor that powers the outgoing model. The new 2.5-litre petrol engine churns out 167 bhp of power and is expected to perform better than its predecessor. There are expectations that Toyota may assemble the car locally via the CKD (completely knocked down) route. Hence, the price of the Camry could go down by a couple of lakhs and may start at as low as Rs. 20 lakh.
