Toyota launched the facelifted Fortuner at the 11th Auto Expo in New Delhi. The new Fortuner is just a cosmetic makeover with no changes in the mechanicals.
However, Toyota has introduced a more affordable 2WD variant and a 4-speed automatic variant of the 2WD variant. The new Fortuner is now available in a total of three variants, 2WD MT, 2WD AT and 4WD MT in the price range of Rs. 19.99 lakh to Rs. 20.99 lakh.
The face-lifted Fortuner is powered by a tried and tested 3-litre D-4D diesel engine that makes 170 bhp of power and 343 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission depending on the variant.
With regard to interiors, the top-end variant of the new Fortuner gets HID headlights, touch screen DVD system with Bluetooth and rear parking camera. Here, we take a look at the various features and gadgets offered on the Fortuner’s top-end variant.
Chrome rich exterior: At the front, the Fortuner gets a new radiator grille with thick horizontal chrome strips and a large bonnet scoop. The front bumper has been redesigned to give the SUV a more muscular appearance. The tail lamps too, have been revamped to go with the refreshed front.
Touch screen audio system: The central console of the Fortuner now features a new LCD touch screen DVD audio system that is connected to six speakers. The audio system has both USB and Aux-in ports. It also comes with Bluetooth connectivity.
Steering mounted audio controls: The leather wrapped steering has neatly laid out switches to control the audio system, use Bluetooth and the multi-information display (MID).
Automatic climate control: The automatic climate control helps maintain a comfortable temperature inside the cabin. In addition, the individual AC vents for second and third row passengers help in cooling the cabin quickly.
Rear camera: The rear camera gives a clear vision of objects behind the Fortuner. This facilitates parking, especially in city parking conditions.
Airbags and ABS: The Fortuner comes with safety features such as dual SRS Airbags at the front and ABS with BA (Brake Assist) that reduces the braking distance significantly.
Vehicle stability control: The Vehicle Stability Control feature has sensors that detect unwarranted steering wheel operation. Based on feedback from the sensors, this feature controls the engines output and braking at each wheel.
