The sharp-looking Yamaha Aerox 155 automatic scooter has been spotted in India, for the second time. This time around, the scooter was totally uncamouflaged and shot on the floor of a Yamaha dealership. The Aerox is an advanced, automatic scooter that blends radical design with a sporty, powerful engine. Meant to be a sporty scooter, the Aerox gets a liquid cooled, fuel injected engine in international markets. It remains to be seen if Yamaha has plans to launch the Aerox 155 in India. If launched here, the scooter is likely to be priced between Rs. 70,000-80,000, and will rival the likes of the Aprilia SR150 and the upcoming Suzuki Burgman.
The 155cc, liquid cooled four stroke engine of the Aerox puts out a peak power of 14.8 Bhp and peak torque of 14.4 Nm. A CVT automatic gearbox is standard. The scooter gets 14 inch alloy wheels shod with tubeless tyres: 110 section at the front and 140 section at the rear. A disc brake is standard on the front wheel, along with a single channel ABS, while the rear wheel gets a drum brake. The Aerox is therefore ready to be launched in India, ahead of the mandatory ABS implementation across all two-wheelers with engine capacity of 125cc or more. This regulation will come into force from April 2019 for existing two-wheelers. It’s already in force for new two-wheelers.
As for suspension, the front end is damped with conventional, telescopic front forks while the rear is damped by a monoshock. Key features and design elements on the Aerox 155 include twin LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, a smart key system, mobile charging point, a digital instrument console and a 5.8” LCD screen. Meant to be a futuristic option for city commuters, the Aerox 155 is expected to be Yamaha’s flagship scooter in India. It’s already on sale in multiple South East Asian markets. As for its launch timeline, keep an eye out for test mules and an official announcement from Yamaha.
