Yamaha has introduced new paint schemes on the Cygnus Ray-ZR automatic scooter. The scooter is available in Armada Blue (Disc), Matt Green (Disc/Drum), Maverick Blue (Disc/Drum), Rooster Red (Disc) and Dark night Edition (Disc). Apart from the new paint schemes, the scooter also gets revised graphics. This makes the current intervention by Yamaha a mini-facelift of sorts for the automatic scooter, which takes on the Honda Dio. The Cygnus Ray-ZR is a sharply styled scooter aimed at younger automatic scooter buyers who want a dash of style to go with convenience.
It’s powered by a 113cc, four stroke single cylinder engine married to a CVT automatic gearbox. The engine produces a peak power of 7.1 Bhp while peak torque is rated at 8.1 Nm. A light 103 kilogram kerb weight means that the Cygnus Ray-ZR is quite a peppy scooter. The prices of the drum brake equipped variants are pegged at Rs 53,451, while the disc brake equipped variants are priced at and Rs 55,898, ex-showroom Delhi. The Dark Night edition is priced Rs. 1,000 higher.
Automatic scooters are becoming extremely popular in India, and in urban areas are replacing entry-level commuter motorcycles. This is because they are not just convenient but also useable by a wide range of age-groups, both among men and women. As more of India gets urbanized, expect sales of automatic scooters to eventually become more than commuter motorcycles. Already, the Honda Activa and its derivatives are close to outselling India’s best selling commuter motorcycle – the Splendor series from Hero MotoCorp.
Roy Kurian, the senior vice president – sales & marketing at Yamaha Motor India said,
As the two-wheeler industry recorded a growth of almost 8% in the year 2017, the scooters segment maintained its growth momentum at 12%. The brand has been able to make steady inroads and will rev hearts with many more exciting products, particularly targeted at trend conscious young customers. By introducing new colors in Cygnus Ray ZR, the company will look forward to reinstate fresh excitement in this segment.
