10-minute deliveries of groceries and other essential items in metro cities have become a huge thing and there are many people like you and me who have subscribed to such services. While we enjoy the services like these, it puts a lot of pressure on the delivery partners who actually bring stuff to your doorstep. In order to deliver the order on time, these personnel often ride bikes very rashly and we have come across several reports where they were involved in accidents due to rash driving. One of the recent incident happened in Bengaluru’s HSR layout where Zepto delivery agent punched a person who asked him not to ride on footpath.

The incident was posted by Parag Jain on Twitter. He was attacked by Zepto delivery agent in Bengaluru last Sunday. Parage explains the whole incident on Twitter through his post. He also shared the image of him and the delivery agent in the post. He mentions that the delivery agent was riding through the footpath and he almost ran the scooter over him. Parag quickly dodged himself and escaped. After dodging the scooter, Parag asked the delivery agent politely to not ride on the footpath and ride carefully. This triggered the Zepto delivery agent and he started pushing and hitting Parag.

As soon as people noticed the fight, they gathered around and stopped the delivery agent. Parag was injured and was taken to hospital for few hours. He had heavy nostril bleeding. Parag even got in touch with the Zepto team but he got a standard reply from the team as he was expecting. Zepto team told Parag that the person who hit him was not a Zepto employee but a third-party resource. Parag in his Tweet is actually not talking against the delivery agent who attacked him. He mentions that he is however against the 10-minute delivery policy of companies like Zepto.
He mentions that Zepto has created pressure on these delivery agents to deliver the items in a limited time like 10-15 minutes. In a city like Bengaluru where there is always traffic on the road, meeting such deadlines is almost impossible. If these delivery agents get late in delivering the order, they often face a penalty. For a person who is actually working on a daily wage he cannot afford such fines. That is why they ride on footpaths and ride rashly to deliver the order on time. Parag mentions that even in this case, where he got hit. The delivery agent was probably under pressure and was getting late for his delivery. That could have been a reason why he got triggered when Parag asked him to ride carefully.
Parag asks Government authorities like Labour Ministry, Bengaluru City and Traffic Police to take action against such 10-minute delivery companies. There have been several media reports that complain about delivery agents violating traffic rules and riding rashly to meet their targets on road. Bengaluru Police earlier this year had started issuing notices to such delivery agents too. The issue still remains and it is even leading to many accidents in the city.
