Kia Seltos vs Toyota Fortuner in a Classic Drag Race: Who’s your money on? [Video]

Kia launched the all-new Seltos in the Indian market last year. The all-new car has become very popular in the Indian market and there is a long waiting period on it. Kia offers the Seltos in the Tech Line and sportier GT Line trim levels. The all-new Kia Seltos is available with three engine options in the market and the most powerful is the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. However, the other two engine options are quite powerful too and there are many who like the aggressive and sporty driving dynamics of the Seltos. Here is a video that shows how quick the Seltos can be in a drag race. The drag race here is between the Kia Seltos diesel automatic and Toyota Fortuner 2.8 automatic.

The drag race happened at a secluded road, which means that there was no interference from the other vehicles. However, while doing such drag races, one should be extremely careful. Doing such drag races on public roads can become extremely dangerous and can lead to accidents. Also, it is illegal to do drag races on the public roads.

The drag race happened between both the cars on an empty stretch. The length of the stretch is not known but it seems to be a few hundred metres long at least. In the first instance, the Kia Seltos can be seen racing ahead of the Fortuner and maintains the lead until the very end. Similarly, in the second attempt, the Fortuner can be seen taking a small lead as soon as the race starts off the mark but the Seltos overtakes the Fortuner.

To compare both SUVs, the Fortuner is much more powerful than the Seltos here. The Toyota Fortuner comes powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 174 PS of maximum power and massive 450 Nm of peak torque. The Seltos diesel is powered by a 1.5-litre engine that generates a maximum power of 115 PS and peak torque of 250 Nm. Both these cars in the video get an automatic transmission. However, it should be noted that the Fortuner is much bigger and has smaller power-to-weight ratio compared to the Seltos. The Fortuner weighs a massive 2,180 kg whereas Kia is almost 1,000 kg lighter and weighs around 1,360 kg only.

Now weight can be extremely crucial when it comes to the performance of the car. This is why all performance-oriented cars and high-end supercars always use lightweight materials like carbon fibre and many of them do not even offer AC, infotainment and door handles to keep the weight under control. On a longer stretch, the Fortuner may outrun the Seltos since it gets a more powerful engine but in the shorter runs, the Seltos will come out to be a winner due to the power-to-weight ratio.
