Hyundai i20 Sportz (O) Variant Launched At Rs. 8.73 Lakh

South Korean automaker Hyundai has recently rolled out the i20 Sportz (O) variant in the Indian market, positioned just below the top-of-the-line Asta trim. Priced at Rs 8.73 lakh (ex-showroom), this new addition comes with three extra features compared to the Sportz trim. For an additional investment of Rs 35,000, customers can enjoy an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, and a leatherette finish on the door armrests.

Under the hood, the i20 Sportz (O) packs a punch with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, generating 82 BHP and 115 Nm of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Those keen on a dual-tone aesthetic can opt for this variant at Rs 8.88 lakh (ex-showroom).

In the Indian market Hyundai sells the i20 with a price range of Rs 7.04 Lakhs to Rs 8.52 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The Hyundai i20 competes with cars such as Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Swift and Tata Nexon which are similarly priced.

Here’s a breakdown of each of them:

i20 Magna: Entry-level offering with LED headlamps, 15-inch steel wheels, manual air conditioning, fabric seats, and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

i20 Sportz: Adds features like rear AC vents, alloy wheels, a rear defogger, and a cooled glove box.

i20 Asta: Adds automatic climate control, a sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, and automatic headlamps.

i20 N Line: Catering to performance enthusiasts, it features a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine, sporty exterior and interior elements, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

For engine options, the i20 lineup offers a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.0L turbocharged petrol, and a 1.5L diesel engine. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual (diesel only), CVT (petrol only), and 7-speed DCT (turbo petrol only).

Safety features across the range include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, central locking, and a speed alert system. Higher variants boast additional safety perks like side and curtain airbags, traction control, hill assist, and auto headlamps.

The Infotainment system is an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, offering navigation as an optional feature along with voice commands. Convenience features include power windows, keyless entry, push-button start, cruise control, and a rear parking camera in higher variants.

The Hyundai i20 rivals the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Tata Altroz and the Toyota Glanza in the premium hatchback segment.
