TVS Motors has launched its highly anticipated electric scooter, the X, at a starting price of INR 2.50 lakh, making it the most expensive electric scooter available in India. This scooter introduces several noteworthy features to the Indian electric scooter market.
The TVS X is the first electric scooter in India to feature single-channel ABS, which enhances safety during braking. It’s powered by a 4.4kWh battery that offers an impressive range of 140km on a single charge. Charging options include a Smart X Home rapid charger, capable of charging the battery from 0-50% in just 50 minutes (with an optional 3kW fast charger add-on), and a portable 950W charger that reaches 80% charge in 4 hours and 30 minutes, priced at INR 16,275 (including GST).

Under the X’s sleek exterior resides a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) with a peak power output of 11kW and 40Nm of peak torque. This setup delivers swift acceleration, allowing the scooter to accelerate from 0 to 40kph in just 2.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 105kph. The X offers three riding modes – Xtealth, Xtride, and Xonic – along with regenerative braking.
An advanced 10.25-inch TFT display adorns the X, providing versatility by allowing riders to adjust its angle. It offers Bluetooth connectivity for music playback and navigation alerts. Additionally, when stationary, riders can enjoy videos or games via the PlayTech entertainment system. Convenience features such as reverse assist, cruise control, and a hill-hold function are also included.
The TVS X showcases a unique design that draws inspiration from the acclaimed Creon concept, initially presented at Auto Expo 2018. Notably, it ditches the traditional floorboard in favor of a design where the frame’s spine occupies that space. The scooter also boasts a rare split-seat setup and offers 19 liters of storage space beneath the seat.
Despite its premium features, the TVS X comes with a substantial price tag of INR 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, it does not qualify for the FAME-II subsidy. Bookings for the X have commenced, with deliveries set to begin in November 2023, initially in Bengaluru, followed by a nationwide rollout by March 2024. The first 2,000 buyers will receive a complimentary Smartwatch and a ‘Curated Concierge’ package valued at INR 18,000.
The TVS X aims to set new standards in India’s electric scooter market with its impressive performance, advanced features, and distinctive design. However, its premium pricing places it in a category of its own among electric scooters in the country.
