Tata Motors is set to redefine the Indian automotive market with the introduction of the 2024 Tata Tiago CNG AMT and Tigor CNG AMT, marking India’s first-ever Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cars equipped with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). Bookings are already open for these eagerly awaited models, showcasing Tata’s commitment to innovative and sustainable driving solutions.

A detailed walkaround of the Tiago CNG AMT, made possible by Kataria Garage, provides a sneak peek into the innovative features and design elements that distinguish these upcoming models. The Tiago CNG AMT will be available in three variants – XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG & XZA NRG, while the Tigor CNG AMT will come in two variants – XZA CNG & XZA+ CNG.

Both the Tiago and Tigor, initially offered with 1.2-liter petrol engines and manual or AMT options, are now venturing into the CNG segment. The CNG variants feature a reduced output of 73.5 hp and 95 Nm, exclusively paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. What sets these models apart is the introduction of AMT in the CNG variants, making them the first CNG cars in India to offer an automatic transmission option, promising a new and convenient driving experience for consumers.

Despite the introduction of automatic transmission, it’s important to note that the fuel efficiency of the CNG AMT variants might experience a marginal decrease compared to their manual counterparts. The Tiago CNG is priced from Rs 6.55 lakh, while the Tigor CNG starts from Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom), with an expected premium of approximately Rs 60,000 over their manual counterparts.

The AMT variants of Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG are poised to set a new benchmark in the segment, maintaining the design elements consistent with their standard models. Features such as projector headlamps, auto-folding ORVMs, wrap-around tail lamps, and two-tone alloy wheels contribute to an attractive exterior. The interiors boast automatic air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment system, a semi-digital driver display, and an 8-speaker sound system, ensuring a comfortable and feature-rich driving experience.

Safety remains a top priority for Tata Motors, with features like dual front airbags, rear parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS, and EBD. The incorporation of Tata’s twin-cylinder technology ensures optimal performance while maximizing valuable boot space. In terms of competition, the Tiago CNG competes with Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG, and Wagon R CNG.

Meanwhile, the Tigor CNG rivals Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG in its segment. The launch of these CNG AMT cars is anticipated to set a new trend in the market, potentially influencing other automakers to follow suit. Looking ahead, Tata Motors may extend this offering to models such as the Tata Punch and Tata Altroz CNG with AMT options, providing consumers with a wider array of choices in the evolving market.
