Signaling A Comeback, Ford India Starts Hiring EV Platform Product Manager

The American automotive giant Ford Motor Company’s Indian subsidiary, Ford India, has recently posted a new job opening. This new job posting signals the carmaker’s shift towards an Electric Vehicle (EV) LED future in the country. This development comes as a stark contrast to Ford’s earlier announcement in 2022, stating its decision not to pursue EV plans in India. Recently, a job posting by a Ford employee has gone viral on the internet. The new posting highlights the requirement of a product manager for an EV platform for India.

The post from a Ford employee states that they are looking for a product manager. It emphasizes the importance of driving innovation in EV platform products specific to the Indian market. The post also has a link to Ford Global Careers page. However, the page now states that, “This job is no longer available,” suggesting that the company has found a suitable candidate for this important role in the development of an EV platform in the country.

Strategic Comeback

Despite ceasing its vehicle production in India in September 2021, Ford has been silently working behind the scenes to make a powerful comeback. The American automotive giant, initially having two manufacturing units in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, sold the Sanand plant to Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, while discussions about the sale of the Tamil Nadu plant were underway with various leading automobile players in India.

Now, the recent developments strongly hint at Ford’s comeback to the Indian car market. The news of its comeback particularly strengthened with the cancellation of the Chennai plant sale with the JSW Group. This move indicates that Ford India is once again looking to commit to local manufacturing and assembling of vehicles.

Prior to this product manager role posting, the company also had several other job listings for technical positions. The company shared openings for Senior Engineer – PD (Body Exterior) and Manufacturing Digital Transformation Integration Architect Manager, further emphasizing Ford’s intent to build a robust team for renewed operations.

Trademarking Endeavour

Another thing that added fuel to the speculations of Ford making its comeback to India is Ford’s filing of a design patent for the new-generation Endeavour SUV. This generation of the Endeavour was globally introduced back in 2022. Now, if the reports are accurate, Ford might re-enter the Indian car market with the all-new third-generation Endeavour in 2025. Additionally, the company could also be launching a number of electric vehicles in the country as well to move ahead with the trend of the future.

Future Ford Models

Apart from going electric, most likely Ford will once again try to enter the mid-size SUV segment in the country. This will be done as it is currently one of the most successful segments in India, and this segment was actually once dominated by the Ford Ecosport SUV. The Ecosport was one of the best-selling models, and if the company once again wants to make a strong foothold in India, it will most likely launch a new mid-size SUV along with other bigger and smaller SUVs.
